Do you like The Sim? The kind of game where there is no telling what you need to do. The kind of game that it’s up to you to decide whatever your people need to do. This is technically The Sim with less graphic and more building + managing.
It’s like having an ant colony in your PC but more.
People in your colony have their traits, personality, feeling. They will remember what happen, get mad when thing go wrong and feel sad when their love one or their pet die…
Then they will have to build their base, make enough food to live through seasons. And while expanding, they will have to face through all kind of hazard like disease, raid, man-eating animals, toxic fallout. What is the purpose for them to live? It’s up to you, maybe just for survive, escape their hellish planet, build a better place or just end up become bad guys selling drug, slave, and organ.
If you want some more, there are also lots of mod out there which can enhance game play, visual, add more contents whatsoever.
The game is also very engaging, I mean very very engaging. Soon after a few minute starting your new colony, you will be bombarded with tons of incident and goals that you want to achieve and forgot about time. Be careful if you don’t plan to play too long, this game will make you forget when to stop. You should make sure to look at your clock or set your alarm to get out before getting carried away by the flow.
Overall, this is one of the best 4X game ever. Worth trying if you’re a fan of the genre.
I’ve been playing this game since the early days of development, when any newly arriving colonists bearing the pyromania trait were clubbed over the head and ushered off to the medical suite to provide their organs for the colony’s elite, when the need arose…thankfully they seem easier to appease, which is good for them, not so much for Andy, the system class master of artistry and his destroyed liver from persistent alcohol abuse.
RimWorld brings me back time and time again when i’m searching for something to play, many a far too late night has been had creating a thriving colony that turns into a drug manufacturing fortress, or a mobile armoury that grinds its’ way through anything in its’ path on the search for more steel to strip from the earth.
With the release of the full version, which admittedly and ashamedly I haven’t put much time into yet, the range of traits for colonists, improved options and building systems is very impressive for one of the many early access games I’ve given a shot over the years. I have very few gripes when it comes to the general gameplay, colonists can be a bit thick at times and controlling their allowed locations can end up a bit tedious, although necessary when your colony cleaner ends up going for a stroll and being ripped in half by a hungry warg, starved half to death as you’ve just committed genocide of the recent deer migration.
It’ll run on a potato and give you hundreds of hours of content that ranges from peaceful to 3rd world warlord. What’s not to like?
