tl;dr: It’s a wild ride 10/10 recommend.
My first hour playing this game: Naked and alone, how do I make a bed for my colonists?
My 50th hour of playing this game: The AI has grown desperate and is trying to throw everything it can at me to destroy the monster I have become, but it fails at every turn. Randy doesn’t like it when you have more than 50 colonists. But no matter how many times he sends disasters my way, my 187 pawn colony cannot be vanquished.
I send 90% of my colonists out in bands of 10, all 100% modified with bionic limbs and organs, hopped up on every drug possible, donning marine armor and miniguns-essentially terminators-to raid and destroy all neighboring colonies.
I love this game. It’s got base building, a research tree, resource management and inevitable disasters you have to deal with. At first, I was a little put off by the seeming clunkiness of the graphics, but I’m ashamed I let that be a decision to put off this game for so long. It’s excellent!
It has no real story, but it does an excellent job of letting you imagine your own with characters that develop over time. I haven’t finished a game yet, BUT there are endgame goals that you work toward as you manage surviving, thriving, trading, adventuring and managing the occasional horror that is visited upon you and your township.
I’ve never had a bad time playing Rimworld. Even when things go sideways, it’s still a lot of fun!
Rimworld is single handedly the BEST basebuilding game i have ever played. Of course, I am playing this game in early access everything is subject to change. (The game is currently in Alpha17 as of writting this review.)
It took the aesthetic from prison builder and the social dynamic of dwarf fortress and had a beautiful baby with it.
The game had the BEST tutorial i’ve ever played with a dwarf fortress like. 3/4ths of the time they have always been confusing or baby you to much.
The game has so many dang mods it adds to the hunderds of hours of content the base games has as well.
Please check this game out if you are a fan of basebuilding/village sim games.
And remember: It’s fun to lose.
